As a result of the efforts of the Pennsylvania Avenue East Community Coalition (PAECC) the 2008 Pennsylvania Avenue East Small Area Plan has been updated. On February 7, 2023, the DC Council unanimously voted to approve the Pennsylvania Avenue East Small Area Plan.
During the DC FY 2021 Budget Cycle, PAECC submitted a Budget Ask to Ward 7 Council Member Vincent Gray, submitted written testimony and testified at DC Budget Hearings, and sent letters to the Mayor, City Council, and other DC Government officials to garner support for the plan to be updated.
PAECC successfully gained the support of Councilmember Gray; John Falcicchio, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development; and Kenyan McDuffie, Ward 5 Councilmember and Chair, Committee of Business and Economic Development, to support and fund the Pennsylvania Avenue East Small Area Plan Update in the amount of $250,000.
What is the Pennsylvania Avenue East Small Area Plan Update?
The Pennsylvania Avenue SE Small Area Plan develops a vision for a gateway corridor that is vibrant and meets the needs of adjacent neighborhoods. Building on the 2008 Pennsylvania Avenue SE Corridor Land Development Plan, this new small area plan focuses on implementation efforts along the length of the corridor East of the River. OP worked with community stakeholders and interagency partners to develop recommendations that enhance a safe, accessible, and vibrant public realm; encourage economic development and retail opportunities; improve transportation access and connectivity; and drive socio-economic resiliency.
